Action for Children The Children’s Charity is the children’s charity of the Methodist Church was founded in 1869. The organisation exists to help the many children in this country still unable to be privileged to have a normal family life. This worthwhile cause was founded in 1869 when it was realised how many very poor children were abandoned, having been allowed to fend for themselves, in turn resulting in ill-health and a premature death.
Through more than 460 projects in the UK AFC supports over 89,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families. Wherever possible NCH likes to keep families together although this is not always possible. Children are cared for up to the age of 16 after which special units are available. Here they learn to take care of themselves in the wider world. Above all they are encouraged to reach their full potential.
Every child has the right to live, to be safe and to be loved. Every young person has the right to be housed, to have enough money to live in dignity and to have enough support for the future. Every young person has the right to justice, to realise their potential and to be given the space to become independent.
In an often cruel and imperfect world, we uphold the work of AFC with children and young people in danger, in need and at risk. We support the growth of this work and the pursuit of these rights for the young, the discounted and the vulnerable. We make this covenant with AFC for the sake of all God’s children.

The Leprosy Mission is an international Christian development organisation. It focuses on leprosy and offers specialist expertise in reconstructive surgery. They also address the fear and stigma associated with having leprosy. Many people suffer in silence because they are too ashamed to find help or do not know where to get help. The Mission works in 30 countries across Africa, South Asia, and East Asia, providing education and vocational training. Also housing support, water and sanitation. They also provide small business loans and training to enable people affected by leprosy to escape poverty and become independent.
Our church plays its part in supporting The Leprosy Mission by raising funds for a specific project each year through our local Leprosy Mission Support Group. This year we are supporting the Naini Community Hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India, and have so far raised £320 this year. Some of our members will be swelling the funds when we do the Bluebell Walk of Hope 6 mile sponsored walk at Rutland Water.
